Wolves are stunning, intelligent social beings. They form close bonds and care for each other as sovereign beings. They collectively mourn loss, care for their injured and learn from the elder members of the pack, passing down wisdom for generations.
Wolves are tribes and experience a level of connectedness from which humanity has strayed. We have so much to learn from them, yet instead we destroy from levels of ignorance so grotesque, they signal the end of times for humanity. The inherent wisdom of this species far surpasses the increasing degradation of the earth.
Wolf species across America are in peril.
The elimination of national recovery plans, habitat rollbacks and kill authorizations are recklessly endangering wolves, using the most heinous and inhumane methods to hunt, trap and kill the wolves.
In Wyoming, gray wolves are classified as “predatory,” and year round they can be killed in brutal and unethical ways without license or permit. This annihilation of the species is permitted within Wyoming's Predator Zones, which make up 85% of the state.
Montana has just set a quota to kill 250 wolves this season. Even though the state is unable to accurately count their wolf population, they are still proceeding with this kill authorization. A single resident hunter can kill up to 20 wolves with a $12 hunting license, including controversial bait and strangulation snares.
In Idaho, there is a law that allows the state to hire private contractors, using hounds to attack, or hitting the wolves with ATVs and running them over. The mere concept is beyond horrific. But the actual task? Who have we become? There are non lethal methods proven to work without these beings slaughtered at an unprecedented rate. Why aren’t these utilized?
Wolves are an invaluable part of the eco system and are under constant threat under the Northern Rockies hostile policies. Wolves, like any other endangered animal, deserve protection under the Endangered Species Act. Yet in early 2025, the Trump Administration deemed its listing “no longer appropriate” under the ESA.
To give state sanctioned permission to trophy hunters who enjoy this sport is unconscionable.
